Work Simulation Kick Off

Objective

As our Work Simulation Competition kicks off, students will review Work Simulation Projects created for past competitions to build background knowledge and set clear expectations for their own work. Students will examine a variety of projects and discuss their purpose, design, and overall effectiveness, paying close attention to elements such as creativity, organization, realism, teamwork, and communication. Through guided discussion and reflection, students will identify what makes a Work Simulation Project strong and successful, including features they find engaging or effective. This activity will help students develop a shared understanding of quality project elements, inspire new ideas, and prepare them to apply these concepts as they begin planning and creating their own Work Simulation Projects.

Directions for this Extension Activity:
In this activity, classes will explore past Work Simulation Competition entries to gain a better understanding of what makes an effective and engaging workplace project. Students will review each project individually or in small groups, paying close attention to features such as creativity, organization, teamwork, and presentation. They will identify specific aspects they love about each project and explain their reasoning using complete sentences. Students will then brainstorm and share ideas for additional features, improvements, or extensions that could be added to enhance the project, make it more realistic, or better reflect workplace expectations. This activity encourages collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and reflection while helping students connect classroom learning to real-world work skills.

Duration: ~15 minutes* [will vary based on students' level of need]
