National Talk in an Elevator Day (Elevator Notes)

Objective

Students will demonstrate comprehension, reflection, and oral communication by writing a concise elevator note summarizing key takeaways from a financial literacy reading. Students will apply critical thinking to highlight important concepts and then communicate them to others. Through written and oral communication, students will practice sharing insights in a formal and impactful way, tailored for an audience such as the school principal.

Directions for this Extension Activity:

In this activity, students will write a short, clear elevator note addressed to the principal that summarizes the most important ideas from a financial literacy text they have read. The note should include the main message of the reading and key ideas. Students should write in a formal and respectful tone, as if they had just a brief moment to share their thoughts during an elevator ride. Once completed, students will share their notes aloud with the class and practice presenting them as if speaking directly to the principal.

Duration: 25 minutes* [will vary based on students' level of need]
