EPISODE 9: WHAT CAN COVID TEACH US ABOUT SOCIAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT FOR LIFE SKILLS CLASSROOMS?

Workplace Communication Skills Will Look Different After COVID. Here's How.

COVID changed the landscape of teaching for people all over the world. However, Life Skills teachers would need to figure out how to maintain a structure for teaching essential social and communication skills that students will need for independence.

Megan French, a first year Life Skills teacher may have had a different idea of how her first year would look, but quickly adapted to ensure that her students were still getting access to important communication and social skill training for the workplace. She taught her students to use chat for communication updates when completing Digitability Work Simulation projects and how to report on progress and interpret feedback from coworkers and supervisors.

Digitability’s pre-employment transition curriculum allowed Megan and other teachers to keep their special education classrooms structured while virtual and when they returned to the classroom.
